Summit
Academy
utilizes a number of top programs to meet its educational objectives.
Every student follows a research-based core curriculum. Each and every
program used at Summit has been specially selected by our curriculum
team to ensure the very highest quality of education. Thousands of students
have experienced success through the use of these programs. Summit’s
curriculum consists of the following subjects: Mathematics, English
Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, History, Performing Arts, Physical
Education, Foreign Language, Health Education, Library Media Services
and Cultural Studies.
Summit also offers an enrichment program for students that are considered
intellectually gifted or above average. We are also pleased to include
research-based programs for students that have a mild learning difference.
These programs in addition to the small classes and highly trained teachers
greatly increase the likelihood of your child’s academic success.
Creative
Arts Program
Summit Academy also offers a very strong Creative Arts program. This
program has been carefully designed and incorporated into the school
to ensure that our students are well-balanced.
Many of the Creative Arts classes are cross-curricular. Simply stated,
the objectives found in the Arts curriculum overlap those found in other
subject areas. Students must choose two Creative Arts electives to be
taken simultaneously during the academic year. Time for Creative Arts
classes is allocated in each student’s individualized schedule.
Drama Program
A teacher has been employed by Summit to exclusively teach these classes.
This master-level teacher has international experience and is enthusiastic
and excited about training Summit’s students in the performing
arts.
At the end of each semester, students are expected to produce and participate
in a theatrical performance. The school will host two major productions
each year.
Summit’s
Culture Workshop
In order to promote the cultural heritage of The Bahamas as well as
other countries, Summit has established a year-long workshop specifically
designed to educate our students about their culture. Since Summit is
a diverse school, students will have a chance to compare their customs
and traditions with those of The Bahamas.
An art series has been planned, where local well-known artists will
come in to the school to discuss their artwork. Children will be given
the chance to learn about the inspiration of artists. Other series planned
are our Legal system (understanding our rights), Government (how it
works), etc.
